Custom Electric Counterbalance Floor Crane for Confined Industrial Lifting
Industrial lifting becomes difficult when the load is positioned close to a machine, production line, wall, or storage rack. Conventional floor cranes often use long front support legs, while forklifts require sufficient clearance for their forks and mast.
For this custom project, SINOLIFT developed a Custom Walkie Electric Counterbalanced Crane Truck to provide powered travel, controlled lifting, and direct access to loads within a compact industrial footprint. In commonly used international search terminology, this solution can also be described as an electric counterbalance floor crane.
The Material-Handling Challenge
The project required a mobile lifting solution for a factory environment where bulky components needed to be approached, lifted, positioned, and moved between work areas. Space around the equipment was limited.
A conventional straddle-leg crane could not move close enough because its support legs would contact the machine base before the lifting hook reached the required position. A standard forklift was also unsuitable for tasks that required a suspended load and forward hook reach.
The equipment therefore needed a clear front approach, powered travel, a compact walkie control layout, and an electrically operated lifting mast. It also had to remain practical for daily maneuvering inside a workshop rather than functioning like a large fixed crane.
After reviewing the access conditions, required lifting height, forward reach, travel route, and operator workflow, SINOLIFT proposed a custom electric counterbalance floor crane with a rear counterweight, vertical lifting mast, and forward-projecting boom.
A Counterbalanced Design Without Front Straddle Legs
The main feature of this custom machine is its counterbalanced chassis.
Instead of relying on two wide support legs extending beneath the load, the rear section of the truck balances the lifting system. This leaves the front of the crane open, allowing the boom and hook to approach machinery, tooling, motors, assemblies, and other suspended loads directly.
This configuration is particularly useful when the floor beneath the load is obstructed or inaccessible. Examples include components positioned inside machine frames, loads located close to production equipment, and parts that must be lifted from a platform, fixture, or workbench.
By removing front-leg interference, the electric counterbalance floor crane can reach working positions that are difficult for conventional workshop cranes.
The extended chassis provides a stable foundation for the mast and counterweight arrangement. Because every counterbalanced lifting application depends on load weight, load center, boom reach, and lifting height, the final machine must always be engineered around the customer’s actual working conditions and a confirmed load chart.
Compact Dimensions for Factory Operation
The custom SINOLIFT crane truck has an overall width of only 928 mm. This narrow profile helps the machine travel through industrial aisles, production areas, and other confined spaces.
Its overall length is approximately 3,200 mm when the operator platform is folded. When the platform is deployed, the total length is approximately 3,620 mm.
The mast has a closed height of 1,735 mm, supporting travel and storage in areas with restricted overhead clearance. When extended, the mast reaches a height of 2,960 mm.
The lifting boom provides 850 mm of forward reach. This allows the hook assembly to extend beyond the mast and position a suspended component closer to machinery or its installation point.
These dimensions were not selected from a standard catalog alone. They were coordinated as part of the custom design to balance lifting geometry, forward reach, overall stability, maneuverability, and the space available inside the customer’s facility.

Powered Travel and Controlled Lifting
The walkie control arrangement allows the operator to guide the truck from the tiller while maintaining a clear view of the travel route and lifting area.
Electric drive reduces the physical effort required to move the machine. It also makes repeated handling tasks more practical than manually pushing a heavy counterbalanced shop crane.
The powered mast raises and lowers the hook for controlled load positioning. This is especially useful when installing a component, aligning a part with production equipment, or placing a suspended load onto a fixture.
The operator can approach the work area, adjust the hook height, and position the component with fewer manual handling steps.
A foldable operator platform provides further flexibility. It can be deployed for travel when required and folded to reduce the overall stored length or support walkie operation.
The finished machine combines several useful functions in one platform: the mobility of an electric industrial truck, the reach of a mobile floor crane, and the positioning capability of a custom lifting device.
How the Custom Design Addressed the Application
The completed electric counterbalance floor crane provided a mobile lifting arrangement suited to a restricted-access industrial environment.
Its open-front configuration improved access to machinery and fixtures. The narrow body supported movement through existing factory routes, while the powered travel and lifting functions simplified operation.
The foldable platform also allowed the machine to adapt to different travel and storage situations.
Equally important, the project avoided an unsuitable one-size-fits-all specification. SINOLIFT developed the machine around the required dimensions and operating method.
This application-based approach helps prevent common problems such as insufficient boom reach, interference with machine bases, excessive overall width, inadequate overhead clearance, or an operator position that does not match the actual workflow.
Typical Applications
A custom electric counterbalance floor crane can be considered for:
- Manufacturing plants
- Maintenance workshops
- Tool rooms
- Assembly and production areas
- Industrial warehouses
- Equipment service facilities
- Automotive and engineering workshops
Potential handling tasks include positioning machine components, lifting motors and gearboxes, moving molds or dies, supporting equipment maintenance, and transferring awkward suspended loads between nearby workstations.
The best configuration depends on the specific application. Before production, SINOLIFT can review the load weight, center of gravity, lifting points, required hook height, forward reach, aisle width, floor condition, travel distance, and special attachment requirements.
The boom, hook interface, mast height, chassis dimensions, control arrangement, platform, and power system can then be matched to the project.
Why Choose a Custom SINOLIFT Solution?
A custom crane truck is valuable when standard forklifts, overhead cranes, and conventional shop cranes cannot provide the required combination of access, mobility, and positioning control.
SINOLIFT focuses on the complete operating environment rather than considering only a nominal lifting requirement.
For this project, the result was a compact, powered, and application-specific machine with an unobstructed front approach. Its 928 mm width, 850 mm boom reach, foldable platform, powered mast, and electric walkie travel system were combined to address a challenging factory-access requirement.
If your facility needs to lift or position a load in a restricted area, SINOLIFT can develop an electric counterbalance floor crane around your load, lifting height, forward reach, aisle space, and operating process.
